Smokey Quartz is great for lifting depression and maintaining a calm, serene state of mind.  Smokey Quartz is excellent for grounding and meditation, bringing a sense of joy.  Smokey Quartz is slow at acting but has a long term effect.  It is useful for protection. It helps us to be more discriminating, both in how to respond to people and situations and to distinguish between what we want and what we don't want in our lives.  It helps us to release what is no longer needed. Smokey Quartz also has the ability to absorb any negative energy. This is an excellent stone to have at the front door of your house as a “gate keeper”.

Smokey Quartz is normally light to dark brown, if the colour is deeper black it has probably been heat treated.
