Blue Halite is a rare and naturally coloured form of rock salt (sodium chloride, NaCl) found in the ancient salt mines of Tuzluca, in Iğdır Province, Eastern Turkey, near the Armenian border. These mines formed from the evaporation of prehistoric seas, leaving vast underground salt layers that occasionally yield radiant, gem-like cubes of halite in shades ranging from icy blue to deep indigo.
The striking blue colour isn’t due to dye or inclusions, but to subtle defects within the crystal lattice that scatter light differently — a beautiful reminder of how imperfection can create extraordinary beauty.
With a softness of 2–2.5 on the Mohs scale, Blue Halite is fragile and water-soluble, requiring gentle, dry handling. Its perfect cubic form symbolises structure, clarity, and alignment — qualities it also inspires within us.
