Sapphires are found in many places around the world. The most respected Sapphires in the world come from Sri Lanka also know as Ceylon. The mineral name for Sapphire is corundum, and corundum comes in all colours. When it is red, it is called Ruby. All other colours are called Sapphire. It is a common misconception that all Sapphires are blue, however they actually come in the whole array of colours. The most sought after Sapphire colour is a cornflower blue colour.
Sapphire comes in other colours, and is sometimes called fancy colour Sapphire, including pink, orange, yellow, white, green, and purple.
