Product Description

Lake Superior Sodalite

Also know as Yooperlites

Weighs 48.7 grams

Measures 40mmx 30mm x 20mm

Syenite clasts containing fluorescent Sodalite. These stones are made up of fragments of course grained igneous rock, a similar composition to granite.

Under ultraviolet illumination, the mineral Sodalite will fluoresce, creating glowing yellow / orange veins.

Erik Rintamaki discovered this rock that glows under an ultraviolet light made of a mineral never seen before in Michigan. Without knowing what they were or why the rocks glowed, he named them “Yooperlites,” so the story goes.

Rintamaki says it all started in 2017 when he went out on a beach in Lake Superior with a UV light and discovered tons of these glowing rocks.

To the naked eye, they look like grey rocks, but under the UV light, the mineral composite makes the rocks glow.
